Ernest Nicholls

Major Ernest Puleston Nicholls DSO TD was a wine and spirit merchant.

He was the son of Lt Col William Nicholls. At Malvern he was a School Prefect, a lieutenant in the Corps and a fine sportsman being capped on the cricket and football fields and becoming a champion athlete. After Malvern he went up to Brasenose, and became a member of the OUDS.

He was initiated into Grand Master’s Lodge No 1, which being a Red Apron Lodge, nominated him as a Grand Steward.

He was a liveryman, following in his father’s footsteps and being Master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers in 1922 and again in 1947.
