Lt Col Francis Hood Fernie DSO went to Sandhurst in 1892 being commissioned into the Kings Dragoons Guards. Appropriately enough he was a Cadet Sergeant at Malvern (see below, right hand side)
He served in the South African War and the Great War.
from 1914 he he was initially employed in intelligence work and as an interpreter before he transferred to the Tank Corps and served in the 7th Bttn. He was twice Mentioned and made a DSO for his work.
